Where do single adults apply for shelter?

Men

All single adult males must apply at:

Single Adult Intake Center 

8 E. 3^rd Street New York, NY 10003

How to Get There:

• Subway: Take the 6 train to Spring Street, (4 minute walk), 6 Train to Bleeker Street stop (4-7 minute walk), B, D, F, M to Broadway-Lafayette Street stop (5 minute walk) 

Women

All single adult women must apply at:

Franklin Shelter

1122 Franklin Avenue (near 166th Street)
Bronx, NY

The interior of this site is wheelchair accessible, however there is a hill with a narrow sidewalk in the path leading to the accessible entrance.

How to Get There:

• Take the 2 or 5 train to 3 Avenue-149th Street (also called 3 Av-149 St).
• Then take the Bx15 bus to 166th Street and 3rd Avenue.
• Alternative option: Take the Bx21 bus to 166th Street and Boston Road.

Help Women's Center

• Take A train to liberty Ave (8 min walk)

Homeless individuals who have been in shelter in the last 12 months should return to the same shelter.

What do single adults need to bring to the intake center in order to apply for temporary housing assistance?

The following forms of ID are very helpful during the intake process (but are not required):

• Any form of ID with a picture and proof of age, such as a driver's license, state-issued ID, passport or visa, welfare card or green card

• Social Security card

• Medicaid card, if available

• If working, your most recent pay stub

What if I don't speak English?

Interpreter assistance will be made available for individuals who do not speak English.
