More Than 350 New Yorkers Have Attended Commission’s Public Hearings
More than 260 People Have Submitted Written Testimony
NEW YORK – New York City Charter Revision Commission (CRC) Chair Richard R. Buery, Jr. today announced an additional round of public hearings across the five boroughs, continuing the CRC’s extensive public outreach as it considers ways to promote fair housing and make city government more responsive and transparent. Since the CRC’s appointment by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, it has heard more than 12 hours of testimony and has been joined by over 350 New Yorkers in-person and virtually at four public input sessions. As part of its extensive transparency measures, the CRC has also released, on a monthly basis, the more than 260 submissions of written testimony it has received. And, in order to help New Yorkers better understand testimony at public hearings, the CRC has contracted the innovative open government tool citymeetings.nyc to sort, summarize, and transcribe CRC hearings.
"Listening to hundreds of our fellow New Yorkers present their ideas to improve our government and address the generational housing crisis facing our city has been incredibly informative for all of us proudly serving on this Commission,” said CRC Chair Buery, Jr. “Now, as we continue our thorough review of the City Charter, our robust, transparent public engagement process continues with five additional hearings citywide. Given the shifting priorities in Washington, the work of this commission is more urgent, and the input of New Yorkers becomes more consequential than ever. I encourage New Yorkers to continue sharing ideas, experiences, and perspectives and to participate in the next round of public hearings. The future of our city belongs to all of us. Let’s work together to ensure New York is an affordable, inclusive place of opportunity for every resident.”
The upcoming public hearing schedule is available below and on the CRC’s Public Meetings and Hearings webpage. These hearings are in addition to a previously announced fifth public input session on April 23 in Manhattan.

All five hearings will also include virtual options for testimony. Additional details about the hearings — including Zoom registration links for virtual testimony, translation services, and accommodations, as well as full recordings after the completion of each hearing — will be available on the CRC’s website.
At each hearing, the public will be invited to testify about ideas for improving the City Charter, with testimony for up to three minutes each. Members of the public can also submit written testimony to CharterTestimony@citycharter.nyc.gov.
