What types of inspections can I request using DOB NOW: Inspections Plus?

Currently, only Electrical Development inspections can be requested and managed in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus. Additional work types and inspection requests will be introduced in future releases.

What actions can I take in Inspections Plus?

You can take the following actions in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus:

  • Request Inspections: submit new inspections and re-inspections
  • View & Respond to Objections: review Objections and upload documentation to certify them
  • Manage Delegates: add, update, or remove Inspection Delegates
  • Cancel inspections: cancel inspection requests up to 48 hours prior to the inspection start time
  • Request Withdrawal Inspections
  • View inspections for all associated permits.

How do I request an inspection?

If you are an owner, licensed professional, filing representative on the job filing, or an inspection delegate, you can request an inspection. Login to DOB NOW: Inspections Plus and select the +Inspection/Re-Inspection button. An inspection can also be requested from within the job filing in DOB NOW: Build.

Why am I being asked to enter an Estimated Time to Finish the Inspection?

The time entered as the Estimated Time to Finish the Inspection will be used by DOB for scheduling purposes. The actual inspection will not be limited to the time entered.

How do I request a Withdrawal Inspection for an electrical job filing?

If you are an owner, licensed professional, filing representative on the job filing, or an inspection delegate, you can request a withdrawal inspection. Login to DOB NOW: Inspections Plus and request a withdrawal inspection by selecting +Withdrawal Inspection. Once the inspection is in Pass/Final status, the filing status in DOB NOW: Build will change to Cancelled.

Will I need to make any payments in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus?

Yes. If you are requesting an inspection in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus and have not yet paid the remaining fees, you will be directed to pay the remaining balance before being allowed to request an inspection.

My filing does not show a remaining balance. Can I proceed with requesting an inspection?

Yes. A minimum of $130 must be paid before the permit is issued. If the total fee is $130 or less, the full amount is paid at submission and the Pay Now button will show a zero balance due, allowing you to proceed with the inspection request.

When should Cross Streets be selected for a Special Installation?

Select Cross Streets for Special Installations that do not have a physical building address. DOB will use this address to conduct the electrical development inspection. If the Cross Street information entered on the filing is not correct and the inspection cannot be conducted as a result, the inspection result will be Fail-Final and require the filing to be withdrawn and refiled.

How do I search for inspections in DOB NOW?

You can find inspections in the DOB NOW Public Portal by searching by job number, address, or BIN. From the BUILD: Job Filings section at the bottom of the screen, double click on the job number, and then select Inspections. If you are associated with the job or are an Inspection Delegate, you can view the inspections on the dashboard when you login to DOB NOW: Inspections Plus.

I need to cancel an inspection. What do I need to do?

Cancellations are accepted online up to 48 hours prior to the scheduled inspection. From the Inspections Plus dashboard, go to the Filing Action Column and select Cancel Request. To cancel an inspection that is scheduled to take place within 48 hours, email the Electrical Inspections Development Unit at MNElectricalIR@buildings.nyc.gov.

How do I view the results of an inspection?

If you are an owner, licensed professional, or filing representative on the electrical job filing or an inspection delegate, you can view results of an inspection. From the Inspections Plus dashboard, you can view the Inspection Status. To see any objections, click on the View button next to the inspection request number and then select the Objections tab. You can also view results on the Inspections tab of the job filing in DOB NOW: Build.

How can I add an Inspection Delegate?

Owners and licensed professionals can add Inspection delegates. The +Manage Delegates feature enables owners and licensed professionals to give system rights to other individuals such as filing representatives. Inspection Delegates can be added from within the job filing and in Inspections Plus. From the job filing, go to the Inspections tab and select +Add Delegates. From the Inspections Plus dashboard, select the +Manage Delegates button or select Manage Delegates from the Filing Action column. Delegates will need to have an NYC.ID account. If you need to create an NYC.ID account, visit nyc.gov/dobnowtips.

What is a certifiable objection?

If an objection is observed during an inspection and it does not require DOB to return to the site for a re-inspection, it is called a certifiable objection.

Where do I find certifiable objections?

All objections, including certifiable ones, are listed in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus within the inspection request and in DOB NOW: Build under the Inspections tab.

How do I certify an objection?

Owners, licensed professionals, and Inspection Delegates can certify objections . in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus. To certify an objection:

  1. Go to the Inspection tab and select Respond to open the objection.
  2. Enter a Description of Proof explaining how the issue was corrected.
  3. Upload supporting documentation (photos, reports, etc.).
  4. Check the attestation box for each objection.

After responding to all objections, select Save and Submit Response to certify the objection.

How many documents can I upload when responding to Certifiable Objections limitations?

You can upload up to 5 documents when responding to a certifiable objection. Each file may be up to 250 MB, and the supported file types are JPG, JPEG, PNG and PDF.

Can I dispute the inspection results in DOB NOW?

No. For technical or inspection inquires, contact the Electrical Inspections (Development) Unit in the borough where the property is located.

Will my electrical inspection status change from Pass-Final to Complete in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus?

No. Once the inspection is given Pass-Final status and the job is paid in full, the job filing status in DOB NOW: Build will be changed to Complete. The inspection status in DOB NOW: Inspections Plus will remain Pass-Final.

Why am I receiving a message about my insurances being expired when I try to request an inspection?

Licensed professionals cannot submit inspection requests if their license has expired. Electrical permits expire on the earlier of one year from the date of issuance or the date their insurance expires. Refer to the Manage Licenses and Registrations Guide for more information on how to update license insurance.

When do I have to submit the required documents?

Required documents must be uploaded in DOB NOW before requesting an inspection. The Approval Letter must indicate Approved before an inspection request can be submitted.

Do I need to post the plans at the job site?

Yes. The plans/sketch drawings and the permit must be posted at the job site.

Why don’t I see all my files when uploading documents to DOB NOW: Inspections Plus?

DOB NOW: Inspections Plus accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG and PDF file types when uploading from a mobile device. If your file is saved in another format, you may need to convert it to one of the supported types before uploading.

Can I access DOB NOW: Inspections Plus from outside the United States?

No. Access to DOB NOW is restricted to locations within the United States. For security reasons, any attempt to connect from outside the country will be blocked.
