Message from the Chair

Dear Brooklyn Community District 9,

It’s my pleasure to be of service to you as Chairperson of Brooklyn Community Board 9. We live in a district that I’d consider the crown jewel of Brooklyn. It’s home to many of our borough’s biggest and best attractions, and some of the most inviting, amazing, and vibrant cultural expressions in this city.

Many of us deeply appreciate what we have in our district, work tirelessly to care for it, look out for those within it, and give more to it than we take from it. The people of our district have contributed so much to this city, to visitors, and to each other that it only makes sense for us to have adequate, competent, and capable government services that meet our needs as much as possible. Services that work. Negotiations that produce housing we can afford. Logistics and access controls that allow us to access our homes during our parades.

My mission is clear: to guide this board toward its full potential as the front door of this district, where it is robust and responsible, caring and capable, and able to guide city agencies and elected officials to deliver the outcomes that help the people of District 9 get what we know is possible.

This work is going to require quite a lot from us. It’ll require an informed, alert board. It’ll require solution-minded committees. It’ll require respectful discussions and mindful use of time. And of course, it’ll require stellar relationships with our city agencies and elected officials. But when we do these things, we’ll notice our results start to change. We’ll notice things that were once difficult begin to get easier.

My goal is to ensure that the future of our community district is not just one that we can live with, but one that we can be delighted to be a part of.

I’m excited to work with you all to help make that future the standard we all see daily.
