Robotic assisted surgery at Elmhurst Hospital Center
Urology

The Department of Urology at Elmhurst Hospital Center is a leader in providing the surgical treatment of urological disorders, including erectile dysfunction and diseases of the prostate, kidney and bladder.

Elmhurst Hospital Center's urological department performs both partial and radical kidney operations, or nephrectomies, on patients with diseased organs. Partial nephrectomy uses minimally invasive techniques to remove only the tumor and leave the rest of the kidney intact. In the case of advanced disease or malignancy, we perform radical nephrectomy to remove the kidney itself.

EHC excels at the removal of kidney stones, the most common problem of the urinary tract, and is one of the few hospitals in Queens that offers shockwave lithotripsy, or the non-invasive treatment of kidney stones using an acoustic pulse.

Urological Oncology

We offer patients a full range of techniques to help fight urologic cancers, including those of the prostate, bladder, kidney and testes. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary team approach, EHC's surgeons develop and adopt the most recent and best surgical and medical therapies available. We work closely with the departments of medical radiation and surgical oncology to ensure that our patients receive the full benefit of EHC's expertise in all facets of urological oncology.

Robotic Assisted Prostate Surgery

For cases that demand more severe intervention, such as malignancies of the prostate, EHC offers both radical prostatectomy and robotic surgery, using the daVinci surgical system. For the patient, a robotic assisted procedure can offer all the potential benefits of a minimally invasive procedure, including less pain, less blood loss and less need for blood transfusions. Even more important is the robot's record in preserving erectile function and urinary continence after prostate surgery. Robotic surgery enables a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery and faster return to normal daily activities.
