Judging Criteria

Interim housing designs should demonstrate the following qualities (listed below). (Note: the competition submissions followed these criteria.) The judging criteria represents the essential elements of urban interim housing.

Density	Maximized number of housing units per land area
Rapid Deployment	Provided units ready to be occupied as soon as possible
Site Flexibility	Maximized the ability to accommodate as many different sites as possible
Unit Flexibility	Maximized the ability to accommodate as many variable household types and sizes as possible
Reusability	Maximized the potential for reuse of the structures either for future disasters or other purposes
Livability	Maximized the strength, utility, convenience, and comfort of the dwellings
Accessibility	Allowed access for people who have limited mobility
Security	Made public space defensible and help people feel safe
Sustainability	Reduced energy costs and the carbon footprint of the dwellings
Identity	Maximized the ability of New Yorkers to feel a sense of identity and even pride in where they live
Cost Efficiency	Maximized the best value for investment
