Registration is open to all.

About the Ruck

The Remembrance Ruck will begin at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, cross the Brooklyn Bridge and conclude at Foley Square in Manhattan.

The event is an opportunity to come together in recognition of a generation shaped by more than two decades of military service and the families and communities who have supported them along the way.

Participants may complete the route with a weighted rucksack or vest or walk without weight. The event is open to everyone, including veterans, active-duty service members, caregivers, survivors, Gold Star Families, military families, members of the broader military-affiliated community and New Yorkers who want to show their support.

Resource Fair

Following the Ruck, participants and members of the community are invited to attend a Veteran and Military Community Resource Fair at Surrogate’s Court, near Foley Square.

The fair will connect veterans, service members, military families, caregivers and survivors with organizations providing information and assistance related to:

  • Veterans benefits
  • Housing and supportive services
  • Mental health and wellness
  • Healthcare
  • Employment and financial assistance
  • Peer and community support
  • Additional services for veterans and military families

The Names We Carry

As we recognize all who served during the post-9/11 era, the Remembrance Ruck also honors New Yorkers who lost their lives in connection with their military service.

Remembering Every Loss

The losses experienced by this generation did not end with deployment or military service. Suicide has claimed the lives of far more post-9/11 service members and veterans than were lost during military operations.

The Remembrance Ruck recognizes these losses as part of the story of this generation and reinforces the importance of connection, community and ensuring veterans, service members and their families can reach support when they need it.
