Commercial Spaces

Covered buildings under Local Law 97 include a wide range of commercial space types.  Emission limits for commercial buildings and mixed-use buildings are determined by the occupancy groups in the building. Commercial uses include, but are not limited to, office, education, manufacturing, mercantile, storage, assembly, institutional, healthcare and utility uses.  Owners should be prepared to report on the breakdown of uses within their building.

While we are currently working to provide more detailed mapping of space types to the occupancy limits within the law, you can learn more about occupancy types on our Covered Buildings page.

Recommendations for Commercial Buildings upgrades are also available from the US Department of Energy.
