Leading Green Public Projects

The Leading Green Public Projects Program was established by the Mayor’s Office of Environmental Coordination in 2025 to recognize completed projects that have exceeded the City’s minimum green building standards, demonstrating design excellence and innovation.

The projects featured as Leading Green Public Projects are prime examples of how the City’s capital agencies continuously work together to meet our needs for quality housing, schools, workplaces, cultural and recreational spaces, and critical public service facilities, all while maintaining a clear focus on achieving the highest levels of environmental performance.

Each project achieving the requirements of the Capital Green Building Program (CGBP) contributes significantly toward meeting the City’s PlaNYC goals as the impacts of green building extend beyond decarbonization through improved energy performance. Our capital green buildings:

  • Make the City more durable, adaptive and secure through resilient design strategies
  • Protect New Yorkers’ health by reducing pollution and improving air and water quality
  • Enhance New Yorkers’ wellness and quality of life through human-centric design strategies
  • Promote environmental justice and social equity through inclusive design strategies
  • Save New Yorkers money by reducing energy and water utility costs
  • Preserve and enhance the City’s ecological resources and biodiversity through regenerative design strategies
  • Reduce waste and help support a green economy through circular design strategies
