NYCHA HOSTS SERIES OF NEXTGENERATION NYCHA RESOURCE FAIRS TO CONNECT RESIDENTS AND FELLOW NEW YORKERS TO NYCHA AND CITY RESOURCES

 

Building on last year’s success, the NextGeneration NYCHA resource fairs offer residents, NYCHA and the community to reconnect, learn about important resources and enjoy their developments.

NYCHA held a NextGeneration NYCHA Resource Fair on June 29 at Todt Hill Houses in Staten Island.

 

NEW YORK – On Friday, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) kicked off its 2018 schedule of NextGeneration NYCHA Resource Fairs at Todt Hill Houses in Staten Island. The NextGeneration NYCHA Resource Fairs support the Authority’s long-term strategic goal to provide safe, clean and connected communities by connecting residents to essential resources and support to improve their quality of life in and around their homes. Local property management, elected officials, several NYCHA departments, and their local community organizations will be on hand to assist NYCHA families.

 

“NYCHA Resource Fairs provide residents and their families with the support they need and deserve,” said NYCHA General Manager Vito Mustaciuolo. “The Authority serves its residents any way it can, and we are happy to work with our resident association leaders, local elected officials and other community stakeholders in all five boroughs to make sure these resources are made available to our residents and the community.”

 

An effort that started in 2017, NYCHA has hosted a total of six resource fairs including three this year at Brooklyn’s Marlboro Houses, The Bronx’s Justice Sonia Sotomayor Houses and Staten Island’s Todt Hill Houses. These events feature a wide array of key NYCHA departments that provide critical services and resources to residents and their families. Residents across the five boroughs will have an opportunity to learn more about the services NYCHA offers in one central location including emergency preparedness, social services and programming to support financial empowerment, vocational training, employment and career advancement.

 

Further, throughout this summer and the fall, NYCHA will provide the community access to its “Command Bus” in order to file work orders or ask questions. A digital van will also be available to offer free internet and allow residents to tackle recertification needs online. NYCHA will also provide live music and other resources for its residents at each resource fair.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE OF NEXTGENERATION NYCHA RESOURCE FAIRS:

  • Friday, July 26, 2018 at Fulton Houses (Manhattan)

  • Friday, August 16, 2018 at Ravenswood Houses (Queens)

  • NextGeneration NYCHA Resource Fairs will also be held in September and October in other boroughs.

“I am glad NYCHA is taking the initiative to get out and provide in-person assistance to residents of the Todt Hill Housing complex. Giving residents the option to meet with the management team of the complex and speak to a representative regarding repairs needed in their living safe is such a necessity. I hope NYCHA continues to provide this resource fair to all public housing complexes on Staten Island,” said Assemblyman Michael Cusick.

 

“This fair will allow residents to schedule necessary repairs and talk to staff about the resources available to them. I encourage all NYCHA residents to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Staten Island Borough President James S. Oddo.

 

New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson said, “I am pleased to co-sponsor this NYCHA Resource Fair at Fulton Houses. Bringing local resources to NYCHA residents offers a unique opportunity to build community and quickly connect residents with services that can help solve problems. Residents will be provided with tools and information to help cure their outstanding work order, complete their annual reviews, meet with their local elected official’s staff and much more. I look forward to this event and hope to see many more for other NYCHA developments in my district and across the City”
