STATEMENT FROM NYCHA ON LEAD COMPLIANCE

Spokesperson Ilana Maier said, “Health and safety is our top priority which is why our first task was to notify our residents as we actively take steps to bring the Authority into compliance. Parents should know that the Authority completed inspections and addressed any hazards identified in apartments with children under 6 for 2016 and will again for 2017. According to the City’s Department of Health, children living in public housing are less likely to be exposed to lead than those living in private housing. Even one child with elevated lead levels is too many. We encourage concerned residents to reach out to the NYCHA Customer Care Center or the NYC Department of Health by calling 311.”
