An Important Update

On behalf of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Office of Financial Empowerment, we want to share an important update with you.

As of January 2022, EmpoweredNYC financial counseling will continue as a part of the NYC Financial Empowerment Centers.

While all Financial Empowerment Center counselors can and do serve clients with disabilities, if you would like service from a former EmpoweredNYC counselor please select a NYLAG Phone Counseling. You can find instructions on how to access financial counseling services below.

To access financial counseling services in 2022:

1. For Clients

  • EmpoweredNYC financial counselors will contact all their existing clients directly to let them know about the transition of EmpoweredNYC and will enroll clients wishing to continue with services as Financial Empowerment Center clients.
  • Clients can self-book a financial counseling appointment via the Financial Empowerment Portal. Select Financial Empowerment Center.
  • Then Select NYLAG to book with a former EmpoweredNYC counselor.
  • Clients can also call 311 and ask to schedule an appointment with a financial counselor at NYLAG.
  • To use an ASL video calling system to book your appointment, call ASL Direct 646-396-5830

2. For Staff:

Your staff is encouraged to refer clients for financial counseling either by:

  • Assisting clients to navigate the Financial Empowerment Portal to book an appointment.
  • Calling the direct appointment hotline at 212-487-4583 to book an appointment for a client.
