Community Board 7/ Manhattan is your part of local government. Community Boards are mandated by the New York City Charter. (See page 314 of the Charter, City Government In The Community, SS2800. Community Boards.) The Board plays an important advisory role in dealing with land use and zoning matters, the City budget, municipal service delivery, and multiple community concerns of the Upper West Side.
The Board is headed by the Chair. The chair is elected by the Board Members for a one-year term, with a maximum three terms. There is also an Executive Committee comprised of the Chair, the Vice Chair, Treasurer and two Co-Secretaries. CB7's staff is headed by its District Manager, Max Vandervliet and Jessie Nieves, Associate Director of Community Affairs.
The Board consists of fifty volunteer members appointed by the Manhattan Borough President, twenty-five of whom are selected by the three Council Members representing the District. All of CB7's Board Members live, work, or have a significant interest in the district and are appointed based on their qualifications and the needs of the current Board.
CB7 has several standing committees that work with the community to address the concerns of the Upper West Side. Board members are required to serve in one or more of these committees during their appointment.
