Archaeological reports are completed through the environmental review process and, in some cases, the Landmarks Law. Archaeology is a phased process and the initial reports (known as documentary studies) offer detailed histories of a particular location, with information about the archaeological resources each site may contain. The subsequent phases of the archaeological process focus on determining what is actually in the ground and what the artifacts and features uncovered at the site reveal about the past. For more information about the archaeological process, please see LPC's "Guidelines for Archaeological Work in New York City."
You may search for archaeological reports by using either the map or the keyword search below. The Archaeology Report Finder map allows users to virtually explore sites where archaeological research has been conducted by clicking on the map to pull up full archaeological reports on each site, with information about what research there uncovered.
