Coolfood Pledge

The Coolfood Pledge helps organizations commit to and achieve a science-based target to reduce the climate impact of the food they serve. NYC is the first U.S. city to sign the Coolfood Pledge. We have committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food we serve by 25 percent by 2030.

Pledge members report food purchase amounts by weight each year and Coolfood determines the climate impact of food using the Coolfood Calculator. The most recent analysis showed that New York City reduced overall emissions by 29% and per plate emissions by 43% between FY2019 and FY2023. As of FY23, New York City surpassed the Coolfood target and is well ahead of the pace needed to achieve the City's 33% target by 2030.
