Environment

New York City has committed to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the food we serve by 33% by 2030. The City's vast food system impacts local, regional, and global environments and has profound influences on animal welfare. We recognize that addressing these impacts will require interventions at every stage of our food's lifecycle and that the impacts of the food system are felt unequally across communities in New York City.

Here in New York City, we launched the first-ever NYC Food and Climate Strategy to present a vision for the City to use food to contribute to global climate efforts, as well as continue learning from others' expertise. Across three goals, the Strategy shares actions City agencies have taken and spotlights potential opportunities to tackle the climate crisis – in school kitchens, at the curb, and on the farm.

Read the Strategy to learn how we can transform how New York City eats, to both serve our communities and solve the climate crisis, one bite at a time.
