Search all NYC.gov websites
You can find your property’s borough, block, and lot number at www.nyc.gov/bbl, on your deed, or on your property tax bill. If you own a co-op, you can also ask your management agent.
If your property is held in trust, only the qualifying beneficiary or trustee can apply.
If your property has a life estate, only the individual retaining the life estate can apply.
If your property is owned by a business, it is not eligible for any homeowners’ exemptions, including Veterans Exemptions.
If you are a foreign national, please provide your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
If you received a Veterans Exemption for a property and can show proof that your previous residence was granted the exemption, you may be able to transfer the exemption to a new property. Both residences must be located in the state of New York.
Please complete and submit an initial application for the Veterans Exemption within 30 days of the purchase of the new property. To qualify for the next tax year, the application must be postmarked on or before March 15. If the property is granted the exemption, it will be prorated.
If you own an additional property outside of New York City and are no longer receiving benefits, you must submit a letter from the county or state local assessor’s office indicating that there are no benefits for your other property. If you or your spouse own additional or multiple properties, please complete the “Additional Property Information” section of the application.
You cannot receive two Veterans Exemptions at the same time. If you are currently receiving the Eligible Funds Exemption, which does not require primary residency, and wish to apply for the Alternative Veterans Exemption, the property must be the veteran's primary residence. If approved for the Alternative Veterans Exemption, you will lose the Eligible Funds Exemption permanently.
If you filed your application but did not receive an approval notice by January 5, you will not see the benefit on your Notice of Property Value. If you file your application by the exemption filing deadline, your benefit will be processed and, if approved, it will appear on a future property tax bill, with a credit retroactive to July 1.
