FDNY Strategic Plans

FDNY Strategic Plans outline the New York City Fire Department's long-term vision for protecting life and property while strengthening the safety, effectiveness and resilience of the Department.

Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the FDNY underwent a significant effort to recover, rebuild and modernize its operations. A key part of that effort was the development of a formal strategic planning process designed to guide the Department's future. The FDNY published its first comprehensive Strategic Plan in 2004.

Since 2004, FDNY's Strategic Plans have served as an important roadmap for the Department's priorities and progress. Each plan establishes measurable goals and clear objectives that support the FDNY's mission across many areas, including emergency response operations, member safety and well-being, diversity and inclusion, training, facility and infrastructure and the modernization of equipment and technology. These plans reflect the Department's commitment to innovation, accountability and preparedness as a premier all-hazards public safety agency.
