NYC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT BRINGS MOBILE OFFICE TO THE BRONX ON AUGUST 2

NYC Emergency Management is opening mobile offices throughout all five boroughs in the month of August

August 1, 2016 — The New York City Emergency Management Department will visit the Bronx on Tuesday, August 2, to discuss emergency preparedness, coordination, and planning with residents. NYC Emergency Management staff members will open a mobile office at 1070 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and will give residents the opportunity to learn more about preparing for emergencies. Staffers from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will also be on hand to educate the public about the Zika virus.

"We want every New Yorker to be prepared for an emergency," said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito. "This year we're working with more city agencies and elected officials to help connect City agencies to the community to help educate and empower New Yorkers."

"It's never too early to prepare for an emergency, and fortunately our City has the resources to help our families prepare," said Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. "I'm pleased to partner with the New York City Emergency Management Department, the Department of Environmental Protection and FDNY right here in the Bronx to host an emergency preparedness event at my district office."

NYC Emergency Management has teamed up with Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr., the NYC Health Department, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and FDNY for the event. Representatives from the Health Department will distribute information about the Zika virus, DEP will set up portable NYC Water on the Go fountains, and FDNY staffers will share information on how New Yorkers can become one of New York's bravest. NYC Emergency Management staff members will distribute a range of emergency preparedness materials and show New Yorkers how to prepare for their unique needs.

New Yorkers are encouraged to stop by to learn how to be prepared for any emergency, including steps to make a plan, gather supplies, and stay informed. Residents will also learn how to join their local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a program consisting of more than 2,000 volunteers dedicated to helping their communities during emergencies.
