NYC Emergency Management invites New York City high school students to participate in the inaugural HERricane NYC program, designed to encourage young women* from 16-22 years old to pursue careers and leadership roles in emergency management. The program consists of a weeklong session from July 31, 2023 to August 4, 2023 that will be hosted at NYC Emergency Management's headquarters in Brooklyn. NYC Emergency Management intends to select up to 20 students to participate in the 2023 program.

There is no cost for students to participate in the program.

Upon the conclusion of the program, participants will have the option to attend monthly "aftermath" sessions throughout the remainder of the year.

*NYC Emergency Management is inclusive of all women, including transgender and cisgender women, and non-binary people. NYC Emergency Management encourages all women to apply for the program.

Eligibility

The program is open to women between the ages of 16 - 22 who live in the five boroughs.

How to Apply

Interested students can apply by submitting this application form and the student's answers to the essay questions listed below. The application form should be signed by the student and, if the student is under 18 years of age, the application form must be signed by the student's parent/guardian.

All entries must be submitted to readyny@oem.nyc.gov with the subject line "HERricane NYC."
