Audio Description: September 12, 2023: The NYC Youth Board/ Youth Committee held its annual, New York City Charter mandated, membership meeting in-person at the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) 123 William Street, NYC and remotely on-line via MS Teams. NYC Youth Board Vice Chair, Elizabeth Cribbs welcomed attendees and facilitated board business. DYCD Commissioner Keith Howard highlighted for members the agency's work over the last quarter. The meeting included several presentations from Kate Spaulding, Director of Strategic Initiatives Mayor’s Office of Engagement who highlighted the formation of the Mayor's Future Leaders Youth Advisory Board and Charmaine Peart-HoSang, LMSW, Director, of Partnerships Scalable Solutions, Year Up who brought with her a program participant Devin Chapman, who shared his journey in developing through Year UP from vulnerable to established.
The New York City Youth Board advises DYCD on the development of youth programs. The board is comprised of leaders from business, academia, government, foundations, and the non-profit sector.
DYCD administers federally funded youth workforce development programs under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Under WIOA, the NYC Workforce Development Board can convene a Youth Committee to support the provision of WIOA youth services. The Committee helps to strengthen the capacity of workforce development programs to provide high-quality services aligned with employer needs.
The Youth Board and Youth Committee meet jointly on a quarterly basis.
