Stealing is a technical foul — but entering this drawing to win a full-sized litter basket is a clean win for all New Yorkers
Days after the last piece of confetti was picked up from Broadway, the Department of Sanitation continues to celebrate our championship-winning team by offering five commemorative Knicks-themed blue-and-orange litter baskets to lucky winners selected at random.
"Fouling up our sidewalks and stealing public property should always be out of bounds in New York City," said DSNY Commissioner Gregory Anderson. "There is no need to lift bins off the street. DSNY is thrilled to turn over five brand-new litter baskets to lucky Knicks fans, the same heavy baskets we use on the streets. Continue celebrating our championship team by going online today to enter – and leave the basket-tipping to New York’s Strongest."
Residents 18 and older can enter online — one entry per person — before 5 pm on July 3, at on.nyc.gov/basketgiveaway. They must provide a full name, email address, home address and phone number, and opt in to receive email communication from DSNY. Winners will be selected later this summer and must be able to collect the 30-pound basket from Lower Manhattan.
The baskets being given away are the full-sized baskets the Department uses on the streets: roughly 28 inches tall with a diameter at the top of 21.5 inches, and weighing about 30 pounds. For those looking for a commemorative basket in a more manageable size, Only NY is offering 15-inch-tall kitchen wastebaskets painted in the same color scheme, as well as 4.25-inch-tall commemorative pen holders.
