Event Give Residents an Easy Way to Dispose of Potentially Harmful Household Items
The New York City Department of Sanitation has announced that the Brooklyn fall SAFE (Solvents, Automotive, Flammables, and Electronics) Disposal Event will be Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Floyd Bennett Field. The event provides city residents an easy way to safely dispose of potentially harmful household products.
Household products such as pesticides, strong cleaners, mercury-containing devices, paints, automotive fluids, and medications may be brought to the drop-off event. Residents can also bring electronics, which may no longer be collected with trash and other recycling, due to a New York state law. Only items from NYC residents will be accepted.
The Department has scheduled five SAFE Disposal events this fall, one in each borough. All events are rain or shine, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The first event of the season was already held in Manhattan. The remaining events are:

Materials collected are either recycled, blended for fuel, or sent to licensed hazardous waste treatment facilities for safe disposal.
