DSNY Unwraps Two Gifts for New Yorkers:

December 24, 2024

Popular Special Waste Drop Off Sites to be Open Twice as Many Hours Per Week;
New Textile Drop-Off Bins Installed in Each Borough

Just in time for the holiday season, the New York City Department of Sanitation is offering New Yorkers a gift: more opportunities to get rid of the items they no longer want – and in a responsible way!

Starting Thursday, December 26, City residents looking to take advantage of the Department's beloved Special Waste Drop-Off sites can now bring their electronics, paint, batteries, and other potentially harmful items cluttering their homes to one of the sites Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This schedule more than DOUBLES the hours the sites were previously open – giving more residents more chances to dispose of certain household items that require special handling.

"So many of us have that broken printer collecting dust in the corner of our homes," said Acting Sanitation Commissioner Javier Lojan. "Maybe you've got a bag full of special use batteries, too. These are potentially dangerous items that don't belong in the back of a collection truck. By expanding hours and days that these sites are open, we're making it easier for New Yorkers to do the right thing."

Residents may bring:
