Become a Sanitation Worker

Sanitation Workers are appointed from a civil-service list.

To be placed on the civil-service list, you must first take a written exam when it the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) makes it available. Upon completing the exam, candidates will receive a list-order number (ranking).

Candidates will then be called off the civil-service list for a physical exam by their list-order number as we receive authorization to hire Sanitation Workers.

After passing the physical exam, candidates must pass a pre-employment medical exam, a background check, and a driver's license check.
