On Sept. 12, New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry and NYC DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie presided over a graduation ceremony for 167 new Correction Officers and a promotion ceremony for 23 Assistant Deputy Wardens at Queens College.
This latest ceremony also featured the recognition of 15 members who completed training as Emergency Medical Technicians and the appointment of four new senior agency leaders. The Department also honored nine boldest heroes for their longevity of service.
“This agency, and the community you are joining, have made this city a safer and better place for 130 years. The history we have written is a legacy that you are inheriting — and will contribute to — as you carry us into the future. Becoming a part of this Department is both an awesome privilege as well as a responsibility. By joining its ranks, you are building upon more than a century of bold service, hard work, bravery, and support for your fellow New Yorkers,” Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie said. “I often refer to the members of this Department as my ‘Boldest Family.’ This is more than a metaphor. It reflects that this really is a brotherhood and sisterhood in service. We celebrate each other’s successes, and we support one another through challenges. We live this job in a way that those outside of it may never fully understand. It is a calling, one that brings you back, even after you finish your tour, and even long into retirement.”
