On July 25, our bold Officers partnered with NYPD, local shelters and community organizations to bring books and bikes to young New Yorkers during the Third Annual Christmas in July event at JHS 231 in Springfield Gardens.
Led by Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie and members of our NYCD Disaster Relief Association and Correction Assistance Response for Employees (CARE) Unit, kids were given the gifts to help stay productive during their summer break.
The community event was made possible through a friendly challenge on Rikers Island, where each facility competed to collect the most bicycles. In total, Officers and staff collected more than 700 bikes to help our youth.
“One of our most fundamental values as an agency is care, and it’s care not only for our staff and people in custody, but also for the communities that we serve,” said Commissioner Maginley-Liddie. “Each facility challenged each other and made it a real competition, and they were really excited to be able to give back to the community.”
The Boldest Family enjoyed spending time with the community and doing our part in spreading the message that law enforcement is here to help families.
