Business Development Unit (BDU)

The Business Development Unit (BDU) will administer DDC’s Mentoring Program, which will prepare qualified M/WBEs and small businesses to work with DDC through outreach, advocacy, technical assistance, and business growth. The program will enable participant businesses to be mentored by experienced construction management firms and bid on contracts specially designated for M/WBEs and small businesses. DDC is currently in the process of developing the framework for the Mentoring Program. Please continue to check our website for updates.

To increase the number of MWBEs who do business with us, it is integral to communicate our interest in them as potential partners. Each fiscal year, DDC engages more than 2,000 prospective contractors through events hosted as well as those attended. Specifically, DDC has participated in more than 100 outreach events, including our contract opportunity and matchmaking events hosted in our Long Island City headquarters. These events give M/WBEs the opportunity to meet with us as well as other firms or government agencies interested in working with them.

DDC is committed to fostering an environment where creative relationships can begin and thrive. The Annual Conference on Contract Opportunities provides small M/WBEs the opportunity to meet with exhibitors, spanning both the public and private sectors, to discuss contracting opportunities.
The matchmaking events support the prime contractors who are on our General Construction list of prequalified vendors (PQL) and have committed to subcontract 30% to M/WBEs. Through this event, the PQL firms can meet and become familiar with M/WBE subcontractors who are interested in working on DDC projects and can help them meet their utilization goal.

The Office of Diversity and Industry Relations (ODIR) is currently working to develop the mentoring program authorized by recent legislation. Please check back for updates.
