As the City continues a gradual reopening of activities during the COVID pandemic, DDC will begin restarting non-essential construction projects.
DDC’s water-, sewer- and street construction projects were deemed essential under the State of New York’s guidelines and have continued throughout the crisis. Non-emergency public buildings projects throughout the City are now gradually restarting.
While many procurement activities remain on pause, DDC has begun some limited construction bidding on specific projects related to future critical infrastructure projects. Instructions on how to submit for specified projects are located within the bid documents or relevant addenda. To further facilitate streamlined business activities for any procurement in process, DDC has also implemented an online portal for submission of RFP responses for professional services.
To maintain safe social distancing, Public Bid openings are being conducted virtually. Recordings of those openings will be available on the DDC website.
Consultant design and support services remain paused as the City looks at the broader implications of the COVID crisis. We hope to have more information on restarting consultant services in the near future.
We appreciate the challenging conditions faced by our business partners during this crisis and we are working to ensure clarity and stability as we navigate this ongoing event. As we continue reopening based on the guidance of State and City authorities, we will update this page accordingly.
The Department of Design and Construction is the City’s primary capital construction project manager. In supporting Mayor de Blasio’s long-term vision of growth, sustainability, resiliency, equity and healthy living, DDC provides communities with new or renovated public buildings such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, and new or upgraded roads, sewers and water mains in all five boroughs. To manage this $14 billion portfolio, DDC partners with other City agencies, architects and consultants, whose experience bring efficient, innovative and environmentally-conscious design and construction strategies to City projects.
