Ribbon Cutting: Staten Island Children’s Museum Pavilion

On June 26, Deputy Commissioner Resnick helped celebrate the opening of the Staten Island Children's Museum pavilion. As part of the Design + Construction Excellence Program, Marpillero Pollack Architects was hired to provide a new outdoor pavilion for the museum and to replace two aging skylights. The new pavilion replaces the two skylights with wind turbines. The wind power from the two new turbines transmits data to an indoor, interactive display that teaches children about the average energy consumption in a home. The 2,200-square-foot pavilion also includes solar panels, which create energy that lights the structure for evening events. In addition, he pavilion's distinctive ridge shape captures rainwater, creating waterfalls around the structure.
