The New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) oversees the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS), playing a vital role in supporting low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers. DSS provides a wide range of essential services aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. Through the HRA, DSS administers various programs, including cash assistance, food assistance, health insurance coverage, emergency rental assistance, and childcare assistance. Additionally, DSS offers services to protect vulnerable adults, support individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and assist survivors of domestic violence. The Department of Homeless Services (DHS), a part of DSS, focuses on preventing homelessness and providing shelter and support to those in need. DHS offers emergency shelter, rental assistance, and homelessness prevention programs. Together, these agencies work to ensure that New Yorkers have access to the resources and support they need to lead healthy, stable, and self-sufficient lives.
