1. What is the Summer Internship Program?
The NYC SIP is designed to provide graduate and undergraduate students with valuable experience working for New York City government. Agencies will have the opportunity to hire interns to serve in various roles in the Summer Graduate Intern (for graduate students) or Summer College Interne (for undergraduate students) civil service titles, for a maximum duration of 13 weeks.
2. How do I know if I’m eligible?
To be eligible for the NYC SIP, graduate interns must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program. Undergraduate interns in SIP must be currently enrolled in a college or university or have graduated within one (1) year of the current program year. Unless otherwise specified, internships are open to both graduate and undergraduate applicants.
3. What NYC agencies participate in SIP?
SIP is open to all NYC government agencies. There will be internship opportunities from various agencies across the City posted on an ongoing basis on the Summer Internship Program website. Those interested are encouraged to regularly check the Citywide Internship and Fellowship website.
4. How much does SIP pay?
Summer College Internes can earn between $577.50 and $665.00 per week. Summer Graduate Interns can earn between $610.03 and $917.97 per week.
5. How long is SIP?
Internships can start as early as May 2025 and end no later than September 05, 2025, for a maximum duration of 13 weeks.
6. How do I apply?

From there, you can click on the list of agencies to view their current openings and then follow the application instructions listed on the job posting. Applicants are encouraged to apply to more than one (1) position to increase their chances of being hired.
7. Do I have to be a New York City resident to apply for SIP?
No, New York City residency is not required for SIP. However, interns must be able to commute to the office location for the position for which they are selected.
