For more than 20 years, the NYC Management Academy has equipped mid-level managers and emerging leaders who may be relatively new to City government with a grounding in fundamental management principles and best practices. The rigorous 3-month journey - offered both in person and in an online format – delivers strategies, skills, and acumen needed to meet the unique demands of managing in a City government environment.
The NYC Management Academy focuses on three objectives: 1) helping participants develop practical skills in managing people, 2) providing each cohort with a better understanding of both formal and informal government processes, and 3) exposing Academy members to innovative management practices being deployed within City agencies. A working knowledge of multiple City services is developed through site visits to participating agencies.
Management Academy nominees should be agency employees who manage people and have responsibility for the design and/or implementation of City projects, programs, and processes. In addition to demonstrating superb technical competence in their respective areas of expertise, prospective Academy members also must desire to expand their impact and are ready to evolve their management capabilities to meet the challenges of today’s workplace.
The Management Academy meets once per week from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm for approximately 10 - 12 weeks. Additional information about the 2025 cohort will be updated soon. If you have any questions about this program, please email us at executivedevelopment@dcas.nyc.gov, or call 212-386-0004.
