If you believe you have been the victim of discrimination in the City of New York, you may file a complaint with the Law Enforcement Bureau of the NYC Commission on Human Rights.
Attorneys may file verified complaints that follow the format outlined in the Rules of Practice by submitting the complaint by mail to the Commission's Law Enforcement Bureau at 22 Reade Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10007. Please also include a copy of our intake form, which you may request by emailing LEB@cchr.nyc.gov.
As a result of changes made by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”), the New York City Commission on Human Rights no longer automatically cross-files claims of employment discrimination with the EEOC.
If you believe you have been the victim of discrimination in housing, employment, or in public spaces in New York City within the last year, you may file a complaint or leave a tip by contacting the City Commission on Human Rights at (212) 416-0197 or completing this online form.
For Employment Discrimination Claims only: If you are filing a complaint of employment discrimination at the City Commission, but you think you might also want to pursue that same claim in federal court in the future, you should also file a complaint with the EEOC. Complaints of employment discrimination can generally only be brought in federal court if the complaint was first filed at the EEOC.
You can file a complaint with the EEOC on their website or by calling:
1-800-669-4000.
TTY:1-800-669-6820, or ASL Video Phone: 844-234-5122
If you already filed a complaint with CCHR and you don’t know whether you also filed a complaint with the EEOC, you can contact the EEOC to find more information.
