Empowering Aging in Place: Educating Front-Line Professionals

  • Establish curriculum for front-line workers that raises awareness about existing community-based services available for older New Yorkers.
  • Pilot and refine curriculum through feedback sessions and trainings for front-line staff, including but not limited to:
    • NYC Public Health Corps comprised of community health workers from NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H) and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH);
    • Geriatricians and social workers from H+H hospitals; and
    • Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit’s public health educators.
  • Institutionalize an approach to regularly review and update trainings and keep front-line professionals informed of new and changing services in real-time and regular occurrences.
    • Identify and enroll professionals to receive trainings on different Cabinet agencies’ learning management systems;
    • Conduct webinars twice annually with office hours during which front-line professionals from Cabinet agencies and community-based organizations can learn and ask questions about the services provided by NYC Aging; and
