Agenda:

MPORTANT REMINDER: Local Law 152 requires Community Board 7 property owners have gas piping systems in all buildings (except for buildings classified in occupancy group R-3) inspected by a Licensed Master Plumber, or a qualified individual working under the supervision of a Licensed Master Plumber, by December 31, 2021

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: If you have questions about Local Law 152, please join us on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 @ 6pm for a presentation hosted by the CB7 Housing Committee discussing obligations of building owners/managers and the risk of non-compliance to Local Law 152.

FAQs:

What is Local Law 152?

  • Following deadly gas explosions in East Harlem and the East Village in 2014 and 2015, the NC Council passed Local Law 152 as part of a gas safety package requiring mandatory inspections for natural gas systems, intended to enhance safety and prevent future catastrophes.

  • Local Law 152 was passed by the NYC Council in 2016 and requires NYC building owners have their building gas piping inspected at least once every 4 years.

  • Community Board 7 Property Owners (except for buildings classified in occupancy group R-3) are required to have gas piping systems inspected by December 31, 2021. The inspection must be completed by a Licensed Master Plumber, or a qualified individual working under the supervision of a Licensed Master Plumber.

Who Must Comply?

  • Owners of all buildings except those in occupancy group R-3 (2 families or less). The estimated total amount of  buildings affected is approximately 280,000 in NYC.

NYC Department of Buildings Service Update:

  • The November 13, 2019 NYC Department of Buildings Service Update can be found here

Questions?

  • Join the CB7 Housing Committee on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 @ 6pm as we cover obligations of NYC building owners/managers and the risk of non-compliance to Local Law 152.
