Board of Correction Dashboards

Daily Census of People in DOC Custody

The Board of Correction’s Daily Census Dashboard provides timely information on the population housed in New York City Department of Correction facilities. The dashboard summarizes daily census data and allows users to examine the jail population by facility, legal status, age, and length of incarceration.

In addition to reporting the total number of people in custody, the dashboard displays the percentage of the population designated under the Brad H discharge planning program and the percentage identified as heat sensitive. These measures support the Board’s oversight responsibilities by providing insight into the size and characteristics of the incarcerated population over time.

The dashboard is intended to promote transparency and inform policymakers, stakeholders, and the public about trends within the City’s jail system.

Heat Monitoring

The Board conducted comprehensive heat monitoring in NYC jails during the Summer of 2024 to ensure the safety and well-being of people in custody. Data collection began on May 31 and continued through August 30, 2024.

As part of this effort, the Board launched a Heat Monitoring Dashboard and updated it every Monday during the assessment period. This near real-time monitoring of daily conditions allowed early identification and resolution of any issues. A final staff report was issued in December 2024.
