I am working as a Maintenance Engineer.  I am responsible for maintenance of equipment within the entire plant, this also involves scheduling men for daily jobs, and locating parts and equipment to complete work on time.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

The most important part of my job is addressing emergencies that occur daily. The equipment is necessary to be in service to maintain mandatory targets which the plant has to achieve.

What is your schedule like?

My schedule is from 6:30am until 3:00pm. During this time jobs are scheduled for the following day, available manpower is checked, and coordination and priority of jobs are discussed with my supervisors

What is it like to work at the largest wastewater treatment plant?

It is very exciting, knowing that you are part of the team working in the largest treatment plant.

Has anything exciting happened to you on the job?

It is very exciting to see the transformation of the plant from the old to the new. There are new buildings, new egg shaped digesters, and modern equipment being installed.

What is the most important aspect of your job?

The most important aspect of my job is to coordinate and implement systems that create safety on worksite, and availability of equipment when needed.

How long have you worked at the plant?

I started working for DEP 24 years ago at Newtown Creek as a sewage treatment worker. Eventually I was promoted to senior sewage treatment worker and currently I work as a maintenance engineer.
