Chon Im

Chon Im, Oiler

How would you describe your job to a 5th grader?

My title and job is Oiler and my duties are to maintain the equipment and to keep the equipment running and in good condition. Machines breakdown with constant use, so as an oiler, I have to lubricate, make adjustments and fix it if it breaks down.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

Every day is a different scenario. This is a new plant with new equipment. We have to get trained so we can properly maintain and operate our machines.

What is your schedule like?

My schedule is 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Sometimes I am called to either work overtime or work weekends or even holidays depending on the situation.

What is it like to work at the largest wastewater treatment plant?

Not only is it the largest but it is the newest, with state of the art technology. It is very challenging.

Has anything exciting happened to you on the job?

I’ve been here over a year and every time I went to a work site at the beginning I would get lost.

What is the most important aspect of your job?

Properly lubricating and operating equipment is very important. We depend on equipment to run the plant and to properly treat wastewater.

How long have you worked at the plant?

I’ve worked a little over a year at the plant.
