New York City’s Short-Term Rental Registration Law is contained in the New York City Administrative Code, under Chapters 31 and 32 of Title 26 (“Housing and Buildings”) of the Administrative Code of the City of New York.

The Law was created through the passage of Local Law 18 of 22.

The Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement (OSE) has conducted rulemaking to implement Local Law 18 of 2022. The rules were initially proposed on November 4, and the public comment period ended at midnight on January 11, 2023.  The final rules were published February 3, 2023, and take effect March 6, 2023.
