Veteran NYPD leader Juanita Holmes retires after 38-year career

After nearly four decades in law enforcement, Chief Juanita Holmes has retired from the NYPD.

Over her career, Holmes rose through the ranks to become Chief of Patrol and later led training at the police academy.

Most recently, she served as the city’s probation commissioner — a role she hopes to continue under mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, though the two have not yet met.
