Support event for families and friends of long-term missing persons credited with making dozens of identifications over the past decade

Media previews with family members and OCME experts in cold case investigations available in advance

New York – The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) will host NYC Missing Persons Day on Saturday, June 6. This established event offers free in-person resources and confidential support for families and friends of long-term missing persons (missing for 60 or more days) to help find and identify their missing loved ones.

While thousands of missing and unidentified persons cases are reported across the country, many family members face the challenge in silence and isolation. NYC Missing Persons Day alleviates the burden of loved ones by making the advanced capabilities and compassion of OCME professionals and partners accessible to all communities affected by this pressing but often invisible problem.

Attendees of NYC Missing Persons Day may voluntarily share information, such as photos, personal histories and DNA reference samples to help in making identifications and connect with on-site support services. Providing any information is voluntary and used only for the purpose of making identifications.

Since 2014, NYC Missing Persons Day has assisted hundreds of families, and the event is credited with making dozens of identifications of missing persons in the New York metropolitan region and throughout the country.

NYC Missing Persons Day is open to all families and friends of long-term missing persons. Attendees are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 212-323-1201. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Interpretation services are available.

Media previews with affected family members and OCME experts in cold case investigations are available in advance of the event. Please email ocmepublicaffairs@ocme.nyc.gov to arrange. Media access may be limited on Saturday, June 6, in the interest of attendee privacy.
