The New York City Police Department Announces Street Closures for the New Year's Eve Virtual Celebration in Times Square

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

The New York City Police Department today announced street closures related to the New Year's Eve Virtual Celebration in Times Square. Street closures and parking restrictions are expected to cause traffic delays. The use of public transportation is highly recommended. NYE 2021 will not be open to the public and there are no public spectator viewing areas.

Beginning at midnight on Thursday, December 31st, portions of the area around Times Square will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

  • West 49th Street on the North
  • 6th Avenue, on the East
  • 8th Avenue on the West

Beginning at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 31st, the perimeter around Times Square will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

  • 8th Avenue on the West

 

TRANSIT INFORMATION

People are strongly advised to use public transportation. On-street parking will be extremely limited in the Midtown area. The Department will continue its drunken driving enforcement on New Year's Eve through DWI patrols and checkpoints throughout the City.

MEDIA ACCESS

Members of the media are reminded that NYPD press credentials must be worn and fully exposed at all times when the bearer is at or within police lines. NYPD credentialed members of the media covering this event should enter on West 44th Street & 8th Avenue. A media area will be available at West 45th Street & 7th Ave. Please note there is no access to the closed film set and media choosing to cover this event must only do so from the designated media area.
