Leadership Change

Today, the City announced NYCHA General Manager Cecil House's resignation, effective April 15, 2015.

Statement From Mayor Bill De Blasio

“Cecil House is a true public servant with a record of innovating new ways to tackle old problems at NYCHA. From significantly reducing maintenance backlogs to introducing tools to efficiently manage NYCHA properties and improve customer service, I’ve consistently been impressed by his ability to cut through bureaucracy and achieve solutions to help everyday tenants. His work at NYCHA has benefitted thousands of New Yorkers, and I thank him for his service to New York City.”

Statement From Chair & CEO Shola Olatoye

“We thank General Manager Cecil House for his two and a half years of service to the residents and employees of the Authority. He has been a leader for our employees and in thinking through how we improve the quality of service and operations. During his tenure, he has helped reduce the work order backlog by 60 percent. Ultimately, he leaves NYCHA in a better position to create and maintain safe, clean, and connected communities for our current residents and for the next generation of New Yorkers. On behalf of the NYCHA board of directors, we are grateful for his significant contributions and wish him the best in his next endeavor.”

Statement From Cecil House

“I want to thank Mayor de Blasio and Chair Olatoye for the opportunity to serve my fellow New Yorkers during this administration. Working with an excellent executive team, we have made great strides to advance NYCHA’s mission. We significantly reduced outstanding work orders, removed 34 miles of sidewalk sheds that presented safety issues, optimized spending to allow residents to get needed capital improvements done twice as fast, and provided a series of technology improvements for residents, voucher holders and landlords. I am confident that under the leadership of Chair Olatoye and with the continued support of Mayor de Blasio, NYCHA will continue on the path to progress, which I am proud to have helped foster during my time.”
