International Affairs Team

Carolina Nazzaro serves as Director of Protocol at the NYC Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, where she manages diplomatic engagements, official visits, and high-level ceremonies in accordance with international protocol standards for the Mayor. She is the principal liaison between New York City, the United Nations, and Western Hemisphere Permanent Missions. She also fosters strong relationships with foreign governments, consulates, and international organizations.

In her role, she plans and oversees protocol for mayoral events, including official visits, receptions, she also manages international mayoral engagement requests, official exchange of courtesies, the keys to the city, and flag-lowering observances. Supports city-hosted special events and strategic communications and external engagement efforts on behalf of the Commissioner and the Office.

Before assuming her current role, she held several key positions at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Her roles included serving several Presidents of the General Assembly in different capacities such as Media Relations, Communications Adviser, Protocol, Special Assistant, she also served at the Media Accreditation Liaison Unit (MALU) where she managed media access to the Secretary General and other high-level UN officials with Diplomats.

Besides her work at the United Nations, Ms. Nazzaro has been a Communications and Public Relations adviser for a global NGO focused on supporting refugees and communities affected by conflict. Carolina is also an accomplished journalist with experience across television and radio. She has worked as a news anchor and general assignment reporter, covering a wide range of topics including politics, business, education, and entertainment.

Ms. Nazzaro holds a degree in Social Communications with a specialization in Marketing and Advertising. She has also studied Global Diplomacy in the Modern World, International Women’s Health and Human Rights, and International Migration and Global Issues.

A lover of New York City, she enjoys the great cultural diversity of the Big Apple. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
