Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

SYEP Frequently Asked Questions for Participants

What is the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)?

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), is the nation’s oldest and largest youth employment program. It connects NYC young people between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience for six weeks during July and August.

What opportunities are available under the new SYEP?

You can now Experience SYEP:

  • In your community: Opportunities with employers in all five boroughs, including health care, retail, information technology, construction, industrial/manufacturing, food service, media, and business/professional services.
  • In the classroom: At select NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools, what you learn in class is closely tied to your summer job and career goals.
  • Through NYC Ladders for Leaders: High school and college students can be paid for professional summer internships with leading corporations, non-profit organizations and government agencies in New York City.
  • If you face unique life challenges: Opportunities are available if you are homeless, have run away from home, are involved in the justice system, are in or aging out of foster care, or your family is receiving preventive services through the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).
  • As a NYCHA resident: If you live in one of the select New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments, get connected to jobs and career-readiness training.
  • Through Year-round Sector Focus: Summer youth employment opportunities in your fields of interest or skills you are learning in school.
