October 18, 2023 — The Health Department today launched a new campaign urging New Yorkers to get their updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines. The $2 million campaign will run on television, radio, digital channels, newspapers, on subway digital liveboards and the Staten Island Ferry.

“When COVID-19 hit our city over three years ago, New Yorkers stepped up to support one another, and, when the time came, they followed the advice of our public health professionals by rolling up their sleeves and getting vaccinated," said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. "With the colder weather beginning to hit and large holiday gatherings becoming more frequent, we know we will, once again, see a rise in COVID-19, flu, and RSV cases. This new campaign is another tool in our arsenal to help us stay healthy through the winter season. We are encouraging New Yorkers to, once again, roll up their sleeves to keep themselves and their fellow New Yorkers safe."

“As we enter the fall and winter seasons, it is important to continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19 and the flu,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Ann Williams-Isom. “Therefore, we encourage every eligible New Yorker to stay up to date with their shots and consult their primary care provider. Vaccines and boosters are some of our single greatest weapons to stay healthy.”

“Vaccines get upgrades, just like our cell phones or computers,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan. “Everyone – especially people 65 and older, people with underlying health conditions, and those that are pregnant or living with a disability — should get the updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines to protect themselves and loved ones. Get them both at the same time to stay healthy and protected this fall and winter.”

The ads launched on October 16 and will run through November 26.

Most people’s insurance — including Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercial health plans — will fully cover the cost of vaccination. Vaccines are also available through the New York City Health Department partners, for people who are uninsured or whose insurance doesn’t cover vaccination, regardless of immigration status.

The Vaccine Finder has an options to select no-cost vaccine sites for anyone who may be uninsured.
