A NYC DOC congratulations goes to Correction Officers Ksepka and McMillan for graduating from the elite NYPD Emergency Service Unit Specialized Training School on June 13 at a special ceremony at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. The Officers, who serve in DOC’s Emergency Service Unit (ESU), were two of 32 graduates in this latest class.
For the past eight months, Ksepka and McMillan successfully represented The Boldest in the school, which is recognized as the country’s most elite training in law enforcement. The specialized training included instruction in tactics, emergency medical treatment, hostage situations, search and rescue, special weapons and more.
“I wanted to do this training to expand my knowledge and skills. It’s important to keep training, learning and advancing in this field,” said Ksepka, a nearly nine-year DOC member who has seven years of service in ESU. “This training was a big commitment, it was intense and a lot of hard work, but we learned so much and elevated our skills. I loved it.”
“I made the commitment to complete this training to help become a better Officer and continue to be of service to the Department. This training was very challenging, but it was a great experience. The instructors were amazing and it’s invaluable the amount knowledge that we learned from them,” added McMillan, who has been on the job for eight years, with six of those years in ESU. “This is a great accomplishment. ESU is an elite unit, we’re a family and I love my career.”
Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie was joined by ESU members that day to congratulate the two graduates for their exceptional career achievement. The Officers also held demonstrations for loved ones in attendance to showcase some of what they have learned throughout the training.
Our Department wishes Officers Ksepka and McMillan success as they continue to boldly answer the call each day to help keep New York City’s jails safe.
