Congratulations to NYC DOC Officer Barbosa Jr., and NFL champ Pastor Tim Johnson for being honored nationally by the American Jail Association on May 20 for their exceptional public service. The special award ceremony was part of the AJA’s 44th Conference and Jail Expo in Fort Worth, Texas.
Officer Barbosa Jr., was honored as the 2025 Correctional Officer of the Year for saving a baby’s life. Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie also congratulated him during the ceremony for earning the prestigious award.
Barbosa Jr., was selected as the 2025 Correctional Officer of the Year and Johnson was named as the 2025 Volunteer of the Year.
“The New York City Department of Correction is full of heroes who dedicate their time, talents and bravery to the agency, and it is so special to have two of our Boldest recognized,” said Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie. “Officer Barbosa Jr., and Pastor Tim have both gone above and beyond to save lives and give people the tools to reach brighter futures. We are grateful to the American Jail Association for this honor and so proud of Officer Barbosa Jr., and Pastor Tim.”
