NYC DOC Hosts Second Annual Men’s Conference

As part of this year’s Men’s Conference, Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie honored six of our heroes for their many years of public service.

In celebration of National Men’s Health Month, NYC DOC hosted its Second Annual Men’s Conference for staff on June 24 at the NYPD Academy in College Point.

The full-day program provided The Boldest men in New York City public safety with engaging panel discussions, wellness resources, mentoring, financial empowerment and more to assist in their efforts to maintain a successful work-life balance.

With leadership from Theater of War Productions, the men also completed a nationally recognized mental health/resiliency training, which opened the floor for discussions about, among other topics, masculinity, stress, suicide prevention and safety.

NFL champion Pastor Tim Johnson, New York Knicks Community Relations member Thabiti Boone, and New York City Department of Youth and Community Development Deputy Commissioner Mike Bobbitt also shared words of encouragement to our men as they continue to help maintain care, custody and safety in NYC’s jails and provide for their families.

Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie, New York Knicks Community Relations member Thabiti Boone and NYC DOC’s heroes were all smiles while celebrating the Second Annual Men’s Conference.

In addition to The Boldest Family camaraderie, this year’s conference also featured six of our heroes being honored for their many years of outstanding service to New Yorkers.

“Everyone here knows that I believe the men and women of this Department are heroes. They do incredible things, but all too often, being a hero for others - for your family, for people in custody, and for your fellow Officers and colleagues- can mean you put yourself second. While that is understandable, and at times even admirable, heroes need support, too,” Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie said during the opening ceremony. “This conference is intended to support the men of DOC and give a voice to their unique experiences and responsibilities and I am grateful to everyone who helped make this important event a reality. To the men of DOC who came together for this conference, thank you for all you do, being a part of today’s event, and being willing to engage in these critical conversations. This conference is about building on your strengths as individuals and as a family because that is what DOC is – a family.”
